☕ Two stocks I am watching closely this week and why
Oct 14, 2024Good morning! 👋
And we’re off - the S&P 500 has hit still more new records as the week gets rolling.
Excellent.
The question on the minds of many is can that continue?
Here’s my $0.02 (Watch)
And my playbook.
1 – Two stocks I am watching closely this week and why
The super-savvy Stuart Varney asked me ahead of today’s opening bell which two stocks I’m watching this week and why.
Both of which I quite like.
One of which I own but the other may prompt a rethink. (Watch)
Keith’s Investing Tip: Many people pick stocks they like, but out of context. That's a mistake. If you don’t know how or what drives ‘em, you may as well be playing pin the tail on the donkey. Learn to connect the dots because it will make all the difference, to paraphrase the late Steve Jobs.
2 – No Slurpee's for you
444 7-Eleven locations are shutting down across North America, amounting to 3% of the company’s portfolio (Read)
The official story is that these are underperforming stores experiencing slowing sales, declining traffic, inflationary pressures, and a decrease in cigarette purchases.
I don’t particularly care about that one way or the other.
What catches my attention is that 7-Eleven traditionally locates in very specific areas, so the bigger issue on my mind is what’s happening to the surrounding real estate.
- Is this REIT land?
- Or office territory?
- Apartment complexes?
Time to do some additional research!
3 – Space X: another lesson in don’t bet against Musk
Musk has done the impossible yet again.
SpaceX’s Starship rocket just completed its 5th test flight while landing the booster mid-air in what can only be described as a jaw-dropping success. (Read)
Imagine what Team Musk has on the drawing board and the stack of NASA resumes he’ll receive as he does it.
Funny enough, I had an opportunity to buy SpaceX shares a while back and thought they were a might too rich for my blood at the time. 🤦♂️
Plan B!
MyPOV: It’s easy to whine about spilt milk - and a lot of people do – but I’m not one of ‘em. History suggests there are 10-15 Nvidias, SpaceXs, and Palantirs etc out there right now in various stages of maturity. And it’s our job – yours and mine – as investors to find ‘em.
If you’ve got this covered, fabulous. And if you’d like some help in that department, I’m here.
4 – What's up with Goldman Sachs??!!
First Apple bails. (Read)
Now reports are confirming that Barclays will take over for Goldman as GM’s exclusive Rewards and Business Mastercard issuer. (Read)
Goldman reports tomorrow.
Hmmm.🤔
5 – The MoneyShow IS on!
Just a quick reminder...
The fabulous folks at MoneyShow have asked me to let you know that the show will go as scheduled in Orlando later this week from the 17th to the 19th.
Yours truly will be kicking things off with the first keynote, Getting a Jump on 2025.
I’ll also be hosting a special Morning 5 with Fitz (Live) Friday at 0-dark thirty to share how I scan the headlines and put together my game plan ahead of every trading session.
And finally, I’m speaking with up-and-coming young market mavericks and entrepreneurs at MoneyShow University Friday.
I can’t wait, honestly.
I’ve been fortunate to speak at the MoneyShow for going on 20 years now and it’s always a great time to share knowledge, renew friendships and, of course, build new ones.
The OBA Family will be there as well, too. 😊
Hope to see you, too!
There are still a few spaces if you can make it. (Click here to sign up)
Bottom Line
People get so consumed in the market’s minor squiggles that they lose track of the big picture.
Not surprisingly that works against them.
Don’t “major” in “minor” stuff!
As always, MAKE it a great day.
You got this - I promise.
Keith 😊
PS: A quick reminder, there will be no 5 with Fitz on Tuesday because I’m in transit to Orlando. I’ll pick up mid-day Wednesday in a jet-lagged, coffee haze from the East Coast. See ya then and, hopefully, there!
