Meanwhile, do NOT let the markets throw you off your game.

Futures are up slightly this morning as traders await Powell’s remarks from the Jackson Black Hole central banking confab. There is very little he can say that we haven’t heard before, which means any Fed-induced gyrations are just that… gyrations.

There is no doubt in my mind that Chairman Powell will attempt to maintain a middle-of-the-road stance while trying exceptionally hard not to create the appearance that he’s weak or that the Fed has lost control. And the news media will dissect every little nuance to the nth degree.

The irony couldn’t be more extreme.

You see, none of this really matters much in the grand scheme of things if you’re a long-term investor with a clear vision and a portfolio full of quality stocks and other investments.

History shows very clearly that companies making “must have” products and services, with strong protectable margins and even stronger executive teams, can profit through thick and thin. That’s why, at the risk of sounding like a broken record, I insist you focus on ‘em, almost to the exclusion of everything else.
